António Costa e Silva, Minister of the Economy and the Sea, visited this Thursday, March 2, the Água Monchique factory.
The initiative took place within the scope of the “Governo Mais Próxima” initiative, which brought almost the entire government executive to the Algarve.
Accompanied by José Almeida, administrator of Sociedade da Água de Monchique (SAM), and by the mayor of Monchique Paulo Alves, the minister had the opportunity to learn more about SAM's investment project which, in two years, allowed it to double its bottling capacity of that industrial unit and innovate the offer of the Monchique range to the market.
«This investment was fundamental for the brand to position itself in the top 3 of consumption of natural mineral waters in Portugal, with a significant reinforcement in its export capacity, continuing to be a reference in Portugal and in the world for the quality of the product and the alkaline pH of 9,5", says Água Monchique.
At the end of the visit, the Minister of Economy classified Sociedade da Água de Monchique as a reference in the market.
«Investments that allowed us to double production in two years, also focused on innovation and sustainability. The biggest employer in the municipality of Monchique, with 20 million annual turnover and also growing in exports. It is a reference », he said.
José Almeida, director of Sociedade da Água de Monchique, highlighted «the enormous satisfaction felt when recognizing the work of our team and the contribution to boosting the mineral water market in Portugal. It has been a privilege to take the Monchique name and brand around the world».
The visit of the Minister of Economy and the Sea to Sociedade da Água de Monchique was accompanied by representatives of IPAMEI, members of the Executive of the City Council and presidents of the Parish Councils.
The visit was also recorded in the “Monchique Lovers Wall of Fame”, with the personalization and signature of the “Gota” which is already a hallmark of Água Monchique.
