A full-scale cliff rescue exercise (LIVEX) will take place this Sunday, February 12, at Beliche, in Sagres (Vila do Bispo).

The initiative takes place within the scope of the Municipal Civil Protection Emergency Plan (PMEPC) and will have the participation of several Civil Protection agents, support entities and their means.

This exercise, carried out on the cliffs of Sagres, aims to test the effectiveness of the PMEPC and, at the same time, evaluate the performance of the entities involved (Municipal Civil Protection Service of Vila do Bispo, fire brigades of various municipalities in the Algarve, Maritime Authority, National Guard Republicana, Portuguese Environment Agency, National Civil Protection Authority and Portuguese Rescue School) as well as the means and equipment used.

Testing the emergency plans, which can be carried out through exercises and simulations, make it possible to identify aspects to be improved in the performance and coordination of the various entities, identify new risks and create routines that allow for a more efficient intervention by the teams involved.

The practice of exercises allows the sedimentation of knowledge and automatisms that will improve the response in situations of serious accident or catastrophe.

This initiative is part of the Falésia Rescue Exercise – FALEX_SAGRES'22 event, which also includes a colloquium, training actions and workshops taking place on Saturday, the 11th.
