Social Security warns of fraudulent messages asking for bank details

Alert was given yesterday on the Social Security page

The Social Security Institute warned yesterday against the sending of fraudulent SMS messages on behalf of Social Security, in which bank credit card details are requested.

«Fraudulent SMS messages are being sent on behalf of Social Security», it can be read on the Social Security page.

According to the note, the message is accompanied by a 'link' to a false page that improperly uses the image of the Direct Social Security, indicates that the citizen has subsidies to receive and asks for the completion of bank credit card details.

«If you receive a message identical to this one, the citizen should not click on the 'link'», warns Social Security.

According to the organism, it is an action of 'phishing' (sending fraudulent messages to 'fish' for information from users) which may have the objective of “obtaining confidential information or extorting money from citizens, using their Social Security identity for the purpose”.

“If you have responded to the information requested in the SMS, you should immediately contact your bank and explain what happened”, says the institute.

Social Security explains that “it never sends 'links' through SMS messages or asks for bank details” and that the IBAN update is done through Social Security Direct, after authentication with a password.
