The Feira da Água e do Mel returns to the village of Cortelha, in the interior of the municipality of Loulé, on Saturday, March 11th.
The event will take place at the local sports center and aims to «highlight and value two products of excellence from the Algarve mountains that are traditionally produced with great dedication and mastery and that continue to this day to be very relevant both in terms of social and economic dynamics, and in terms of terms of the tourist projection of the region».
The program starts at 9 am, with a pedestrian walk of about 10 kilometers in length, along the most beautiful and hidden trails in the area, passing by medronho distilleries.
«Walkers will thus be able to visit the boilers in full operation and watch live the distillation of the precious nectar, which is usually done at this time of year», explains the Associação dos Amigos da Cortelha, which organizes the Fair. Registration is open and can be done by clicking here.
The arrival of walkers to the Feira da Água e do Mel is scheduled for noon, a time that coincides with the opening of the exhibitors. A little later, in the restaurant space, mountain delicacies will begin to be served, made according to timeless recipes and with products that are also mostly seasonal and local, where maize porridge and roasted chorizo stand out.
After the invigorating meal, the musical entertainment will begin with the Garvefole Orchestra and the Folkloric Ranch “As Mondadeiras das Barrosas”. The music will continue at dinnertime and into the night, with animation by Ruben Filipe.
The main local producers of brandy and honey will be present, as well as farmers and artisans, thus giving visitors the opportunity to taste and purchase truly genuine and high quality products.
«The first edition was a huge success, as a result of the numerous exhibitors present, as well as the participation of many visitors, who, at this time of year, seek the Algarve interior to glimpse the beautiful landscapes, taste the mountain cuisine and present the best uses and customs of the Serra do Caldeirão», explain the organizers.
The organization is in charge of the Association of Friends of Cortelha, with the support of the Municipality of Loulé and the Parish Council of Salir.
