Farense will appeal the punishment of two games behind closed doors

Farense will appeal the punishment of two games behind closed doors, decided by the Disciplinary Council (CD) of the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF), due to alleged racist insults to a player from Académico de Viseu.

The situation happened in August last year, on the 3rd round of the II Liga, in a game that ended in a 2-2 draw.

Already after the end of the match, André Clovis, who scored one of the goals, complained of having been the target of racist insults, coming from the Farense stand.

In a statement, Farense now complained of the «deep feeling of injustice» of this decision, showing «incredulous with the legal framework that was made of the putative racist insults».

This is due to the fact that article 113 of the Disciplinary Regulation of the Portuguese Professional Football League states that the «club that promotes, consents to or tolerates the display of banners, the chanting of racist slogans or, in general, any behavior that violate human dignity on account of race, language, religion, ethnic origin, gender or sexual orientation is punished”.

Now, according to the Algarve, «never could Farense promote, consent or tolerate racist insults that it was not aware of during the game in question».

“Incidentally, all sports agents and security forces present were only informed of what had happened, after the end of the game, when the two players in question reported having been offended”, he adds.

«Farense is a century-old institution that has guided its entire existence by defending human dignity through sports; And repudiates and condemns any practice that is offensive to the highest values of humanity», concludes the statement.
