From Algarve to Correntes d'Escritas

Festival hosts the launch of the literary magazine Palavrar, coordinated by Analita Alves dos Santos and Diana Almeida

The Meeting of Writers of Iberian Expression — Correntes d'Escritas, which takes place from the 14th to the 18th of February in Póvoa do Varzim, will once again count with several authors from the Algarve, as well as one hundred guests and four dozen releases.

In the 24th edition, scheduled for Cine-Teatro Garret, there will be authors from Brazil, Colombia, Chile, Cuba, Mozambique, Angola, Guinea, São Tomé and Príncipe, Spain and Portugal, for an event full of tributes, conversations and many books.

Among so many writers, on Saturday, February 18th, some projects will come together with the presence of authors from the Algarve: the book Unfinished Stories by Camilo Castelo Branco, featuring, among other names, Lídia Jorge and Nuno Júdice, will be presented at 15 pm in the rehearsal room; Sandro William Junqueira will be in the main room, at 00 pm, talking about «I write for the posterity of what is nothing»; and in the event room, also at 15 pm, the launch of the literary magazine Word – Reading and writing is resisting, coordinated by Analita Alves dos Santos and Diana Almeida.

This literary magazine is the materialization of a community gathered around words, reading and writing, guided by the author, trainer and literary activist from the Algarve Analita Alves dos Santos. Anonymous voices, imbued with entrepreneurship and creative daring, advanced and sowed the Word – Reading and writing is resisting.

The motto «Reading and writing is resisting» was inspired by the words of Lídia Jorge, who once said: «Literature is an absolutely indispensable act of resistance» and it is necessary «to publish, read and disseminate».

Diana Almeida, an obstetrician in the Algarve by profession, editor and writer by passion, had the seed idea: «Being part of the project since its inception is both a pride and a challenge. I grow with each issue, I see the same in those who accompany me, and we know that we will continue and that PALAVRAR becomes solid and bigger with each new issue».

The theme of this fourth edition is “Peace”.

On the stage of the auditorium, eleven authors will give voice to the written words, to materialize what is, for now, a digital magazine.

The texts to be read will reflect the various headings that make up the biannual periodical, which is assumed to be «resistant and irreverent», a platform for the dissemination of new literary voices, expanding the little space currently existing in Portugal for this purpose.

Here are the various headings of PALAVRAR and the authors who will present them, on February 18, at 15 pm, at Cine-Teatro Garret – acting room:
