Algarvio Amaro Antunes loses Tour of Portugal 2021 for doping

32-year-old Algarvean announced on January 16th the withdrawal of cycling

The Algarve rider Amaro Antunes was suspended for four years by the International Cycling Union (UCI) for “use of prohibited methods and/or prohibited substances”, losing, among other results, the 2021 Tour of Portugal.

According to the list of cyclists suspended by the UCI, updated today, Amaro Antunes, whose suspension is in effect until December 5, 2026, loses his victory in the 2021 edition of the queen proof of national cycling, but maintains the triumphs in the 2020 and 2017 editions.

The 32-year-old from the Algarve, who announced his retirement from cycling on January 16, still sees the results of the 2015 and 2016 Tours erased, as well as the 2017 Tour of the Algarve, in which he won the fifth stage, with a finish at the top of the Malhão (Loulé), and in the Tour of the Valencian Community that same year.
