Algarve Tech Hub presents “The Algarve Dream” in California

Next visit will be to the German market

The Algarve Tech Hub entourage represented the region at the «Living in Portugal» events, in the United States of America, in Los Angeles, on the 9th of February, and in San Francisco, on the 11th of February.

The objective was to present the Algarve region, make contacts and strategic partnerships with all those interested in learning more about the Algarve and the regional ecosystem and provide information to future foreign residents about various practical aspects of life in Portugal and in the southernmost region of the country.

The organization of these seminars is in charge of the publishing group Open Media Group, the main Portuguese publishing group to publish in a foreign language, together with several partners who offer advice on all matters related to life in Portugal and in the Algarve.

With a shared vision, Associação Algarve Evolution, Associação Turismo do Algarve, Região de Turismo do Algarve and Universidade do Algarve joined forces to develop the Algarve Tech Hub Internationalization Project, funded by CRESC Algarve 2020 | Portugal 2020.

The central objective of the project is to enhance the success of the internationalization of companies and entities in the R&I system of the technology sector in the Algarve region for the US and German markets.

«This set of initiatives is also intended to assess potential opportunities leading to the strengthening of the regional ecosystem and the attraction of qualified resources», stresses the Algarve Tech Hub, noting that this event resulted in a considerable increase in contacts and strategic partnerships for the four elements who went to represent what is presented as the best ecosystem in Europe to live, study and work.

In one of the Living in Portugal sessions, Miguel Fernandes, president of Algarve Evolution, the association that represents the ecosystem's technology companies, presented the ecosystem and answered the questions that arose from it, as a result of his curiosity for the country and, in particular, for the Algarve region. Algarve.

“It is incredible the curiosity that is being born in the United States regarding our country and our region. It's like living the American dream, but this time the opposite: people want to live the Algarve dream. They even want to know, not only how they can live in our country, but also how they can contribute to economic development. It was very rewarding to feel that even from such a great distance, there is this desire to actively participate in our ecosystem», said Miguel Fernandes.

Vanessa Nascimento, vice-president of Algarve Evolution, also highlighted the importance of the message of support left by Pedro Pinto, consul general of Portugal in San Francisco, who referred that Portugal is a country with a vision of the future and that it clearly demonstrates its commitment to sustainability, the sea and tourism, as well as innovation, competitiveness and digital.

The occasion also included a visit to the California State University, speaking of the international university of the Algarve.

André Botelheiro, current coordinator of the UAlg Communications Office and head of the university's rector's office, accompanied by Hugo Barros, head of the Entrepreneurship and Technology Transfer division (CRIA), met with the leaders of that university in the bay of São Francisco with the aim of sharing practical information on how the two institutions stimulate and develop the existence of a technological ecosystem.

In the case of San Francisco, the most innovative and solid on a global scale, and in the case of the Algarve, in growing international affirmation, as exemplified by the recent installation of the UAlg Tec Campus (company accelerator).

At the same time, a collaboration protocol between the two universities was prepared, which will be signed tomorrow, February 21, on the occasion of a visit by Dean Paulo Águas, which will open doors for an exchange between the university community and also the technological ecosystem.

According to the Algarve Tech Hub, the visit to the US market was «a success» and now follows a visit by this entourage to the German market.
