A new volunteer program is coming at the Museum of Lagos

Since 2008, Lagos has operated a Local Volunteer Bank, called “Lagos + Voluntário”

The Municipality of Lagos is preparing the “Regulation of the Volunteer Program at the Museum of Lagos”, with the aim of creating conditions formal measures for the development of a program that allows volunteers to be accommodated and placed in museum spaces, «thus responding to the requests and interest already expressed by the citizens».

According to the autarchy, "the involvement of civil society in causes related to the environment, solidarity, education, culture and health has seen an increase, leading public institutions to be more attentive and open to this type of cooperation" and the case of museums and monuments is no exception.

The draft regulation present at the chamber meeting presupposes that the volunteer program will be open to the participation of any citizen over 18 years old, Portuguese or of another nationality.

The duration of volunteering, the workload to be completed and the tasks to be carried out will be agreed between the volunteer and the Museum of Lagos, guaranteeing guidance and technical monitoring, information and training, as well as insurance.

In Lagos, a Local Volunteer Bank has been in operation since 2008, called “Lagos + Volunteer”, which aims to provide the crossing of interests between institutions and citizens, increasing active citizenship by encouraging volunteering and promoting self-reliance. Realization.

Currently, the autarchy and private institutions of social solidarity are the entities with volunteer projects carried out in the
social areas, support for the elderly, support for people with disabilities, promotion of reading, promotion of healthy eating and combating food waste in the school context, as well as animal protection and welfare.

These will soon be joined by this project by the Museum of Lagos in the field of cultural heritage.
