Tavira puts “Diabetes in Motion”

National coordination is carried out by the Directorate-General for Health

The “Diabetes em Movimento” program, aimed at people with type 2 diabetes, has already started in Tavira.

Physical exercise and health education sessions take place at the Municipal Pavilion Dr. Eduardo Mansinho, until June, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, being promoted by exercise professionals and nurses.

Those who attend these classes are referred by doctors and nurses at the Tavira Health Centre.

Diabetes in Motion is a multi-institutional, multidisciplinary and multi-competent intervention program that represents an articulated community effort to provide a concrete and effective physical activity solution for individuals who suffer from this pathology.

National coordination is carried out by the General Directorate of Health, through the National Program for the Promotion of Physical Activity and the National Program for Diabetes.

Diabetes is one of the main public health problems in our country (there are around 1 million people with this chronic disease in Portugal) and physical activity is one of the pillars of treatment.
