Household income advances in the euro zone and EU in the 3rd quarter of 2022

According to the latest Eurostat data

The real income of families in the euro zone increased by 0,4% in the third quarter of 2022 and that of those in the European Union (EU) rose by 0,1%, according to data released today by Eurostat.

The increase recorded in the euro zone between July and September compares with the 0,1% in the same period of the previous year and the 0,7% decrease in the previous quarter.

In the EU, real household income increased by 0,4%, after having remained stable in the third quarter of 2021 and retreating by 1,1% in the previous quarter.

The real consumption of families in the euro zone, in turn, increased by 0,5%, maintaining the pace of the previous quarter and slowing down compared to the same period (3,9%).

In the EU, according to the European statistical service, real household consumption increased by 0,7% between July and September, accelerating compared to the 0,4% of the previous quarter, but showing a sharp decline when compared to the same period of the previous year (4,1 %).

The 'per capita' real income of households is defined as the nominal gross disposable income of households adjusted divided by the total population (concept of national accounts) and by the deflator (price index) of final consumption expenditure of households.

Real household consumption 'per capita' is defined as households' real final consumption in nominal terms divided by the total population and the household final consumption expenditure deflator.
