The celebrations of the 250th anniversary of the creation of the municipality of Lagoa start this Monday, January 16th, with a ceremony at 17 pm at the Carlos do Carmo Auditorium. Joaquim Rocha Vieira, who was born in Lagos and was the last Governor of Macau, is the chairman of the Honor Committee.
These celebrations begin precisely on the day Lagoa celebrates its 250th anniversary, after, on the 16th of January 1773, by royal charter, D. José redefined the administrative divisions of the Algarve region and gave birth to this county.
According to the municipality, the «commemorative program includes cycles of conferences and training actions, training of the technical teams of the municipality and local companies, but also of sports and educational agents, bringing researchers, decision-makers and thinkers to Lagoa».
There will be «cycles of reflection and sharing of knowledge and knowledge, which will be thought of in an articulation between memory and the construction of the territory and the new challenges that today face municipalities and the world», but also «public art».
«A series of events will also be developed, where the work with the community can continue to strengthen the identity of Lagoa and the people of Lagoa, in a permanent dialogue between the Municipality and the social and cultural agents of the municipality, so that they can also build commemorative programs , aware that everyone contributes to the development of the municipality», adds the Câmara de Lagoa.
Luís Encarnação, Mayor, invites everyone to «participate in the celebrations and feel the “Pride in Being Lagoa”».
Tomorrow, the 16th, there will also be the raising of the flag, in front of the City Council building, the launching of the new portal of the municipality and a road through the municipality.
Last Friday, the 13th, the inauguration of the “Pátio das Gerações” also took place.
