Jamila Madeira complains of «scrutiny that has no precedent in Portugal»

Algarve deputy sent new clarification to newsrooms

«A ballot that has no precedent in Portugal». It was in this way that Jamila Madeira, socialist deputy to the Assembly of the Republic, classified today, the 18th, the news that has been made public, which are based on facts which, it alleges, it itself 'declared and recorded'.

In a new clarification sent to the newsrooms, the deputy elected by the Algarve and who was the leader of the PS list by the circle of Faro, again defended that he acted «always in a transparent manner and in compliance with the law», having never omitted or hidden «any relevant information».

«All my income and all my professional and political activity has, since 1999, been declared and registered and the documents are public», he adds.

As I had already pointed out in a first written clarification sent yesterday to the Sul Informação, Jamila Madeira assures that she always complied with her reporting obligations, that she exercised functions on an exclusive basis when she was a member of the Government and that she requested, in 2010 and in 2022, opinions «on the possibility of accumulating professional functions on a part-time basis with the activity Member of Parliament on a non-exclusive basis'.

He also reinforced that his connection to the company began in 1997, after finishing the Economics course.

Today, and after the newspaper Público revealed that Jamila Madeira played the role of lobbyist in favor of REN with the European Union between 2012 and 2013, the deputy explained the situation.

«After having ceased my functions as a Member of the European Parliament in 2009 and in 2011 in the National Parliament, I returned to my original professional activity, having, in June 2012, as it is public and duly registered and declared, represented REN in the transparency register of the European Union", he said.

«REN's representation functions in the various European bodies ceased at the beginning of 2016 when I ended my maternity leave and began my duties as a member of the Assembly of the Republic», she added.

As for the income she earns, Jamila Madeira says that the figures that are being disclosed «in some media are false, as can easily be verified by consulting the income statements that I have always submitted and that are public».

«Since January 1, 2023, I have been, by choice, in the Assembly of the Republic on an exclusive basis of functions, after, on my own initiative, having requested, on July 28, an opinion from the Transparency Commission on the possibility of accumulating functions part-time," he revealed.

Regarding the allegation, also made by the newspaper Público, that the resignation of functions at REN, to be an exclusive deputy, aimed to avoid having a negative opinion on the opinion requested in 2022, Jamila Madeira does not provide any clarification.

Also in response to an article in this newspaper, the Algarve parliamentarian says that the shares she owns «and that appear in the income statements that I delivered and whose value and quantity are public, were acquired in Public Sales Operations and constitute a form of savings used by thousands of Portuguese as a way to protect the future».
