Hospital Lusíadas Albufeira acquires new mammography device

Equipment is available to perform pre-scheduled exams and also for any emergency situations

Hospital Lusíadas Albufeira has acquired a new state-of-the-art mammography unit, which allows «better visualization and detection of breast cancer, with greater comfort for the patient and less radiation».

The investment in the Mammomat Revelation mammograph, by Siemens Healthineers, is a commitment to the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of this prevalent pathology. In Portugal, in 2020, around 7 new cases of breast cancer were diagnosed.

“We know that the sooner breast cancer is diagnosed, the greater the likelihood of success. Permanent technological innovation allows increasingly accurate diagnoses, but also with an ever-increasing level of comfort for the patient. At Hospital Lusíadas Albufeira we accompany this technological evolution, assuring those who seek us the best that technology has to offer», explains Pedro Oliveira, CEO of the Lusíadas Saúde units in the Algarve.

The new equipment has tomosynthesis technology with a 50° angle and performs high-definition 3D exams, for a better evaluation of breast nodules, distortions and microcalcifications.

According to the hospital group, “its high resolution in depth allows tissue separation, which translates into better visualization and detection. In addition, the machine has a system that offers more agile and high-precision biopsies, with wide access to all regions of the breast and allows a reduction of up to 30% in radiation».

The new mammography device is available for pre-scheduled exams and also for emergency situations.
