Strike: Associations of Parents of the Algarve want the school «to return to normal»

Consecutive strikes are "forcing parents to be very creative in finding solutions so they don't miss work"

The Regional Federation of Associations of Parents of the Algarve (FRAPAL) advocates putting "an end" to the teachers strike so that the school “goes back to normal”.

In a press release, FRAPAL, which «understands and supports» the struggle of teachers, says that students – and parents – «have to get back into routine».

«Most students do not understand the teachers' claim, but are anxious about whether they are going to miss material and how it will be made up. What impact will this strike have on assessment and exams at the end of the school year?”

«We have students who use the school not only as a place of learning, but a safe place, away from everyday problems, and a hot meal», recalls FRAPAL.

Guardians also question when the Ministry of Education (ME) "will take measures to ensure that the school will maintain the minimum services to lessen the impact on the lives of students", as well as parents.

«We want ME initiative, we want a better and quality school, we want better teachers, more motivated and better education! It is totally unacceptable that we continue every year with schools lacking teachers for entire periods or semesters», they say.

FRAPAL's proposal is that «a strike calendar with a date and time is guaranteed, so that parents and students can organize themselves so that the impact on their lives is more controlled».

"The consecutive strikes are jeopardizing the jobs of guardians, forcing them to be very creative in finding solutions so as not to miss work and ensure that their students are safe during the day", concludes the note. of press.
