“Algarve Literary Route” will be launched

Route was developed by the University of Algarve, with the coordination of professors Rita Baleiro and Sílvia Quinteiro

The “Algarve Literary Route” will be launched by the Regional Directorate of Culture this Saturday, December 17, at 15 pm, in the Salão Nobre of the Câmara de São Brás de Alportel.

This route, developed by the University of the Algarve, with the coordination of professors Rita Baleiro and Sílvia Quinteiro, «aims to offer a different look at the region, since the vast majority of these itineraries suggest locations in the interior of the Algarve, as well as combating the seasonality of tourism in the region, while promoting Portuguese literature», says the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve.

Taking as a starting point literary texts by Algarve authors and others who referred to the Algarve in their works, a relationship was established between these references and the physical space that generated literary places, later organized and interconnected through narratives that establish coherence between points stop.

«These tours also have potential in a school context, in the occupation of the elderly, in the training of local guides and in the promotion of Algarve authors to an international audience, within the scope of Literary Tourism», he adds.

«Each itinerary corresponds to a brochure and a route marked on the ground, so that the visitor can do it independently. The brochures offer a narrative that results from the meeting of literary texts with the biographies of the writers and the territory, and is complemented with information on the history, demography, gastronomy, legends and traditions of each of these places», he says.

The literary itineraries will be available free of charge, through a website, in four languages: Portuguese, English, French and Spanish.
