GNR seizes 809 bottles of nitrous oxide in Tavira

With an estimated value of more than 55 thousand euros

The National Republican Guard (GNR) seized 809 bottles of nitrous oxide, in the municipality of Tavira, last Friday, December 2nd.

The operation, which also resulted in the identification of two men, aged 31 and 35, was carried out in conjunction with the Police and Customs Cooperation Center of Castro Marim and Ayamonte and the Guardia Civil of Spain.

During surveillance at the land border next to the International Bridge over the Guadiana River, the GNR detected the movement of a suspicious heavy goods vehicle from Spain, which ended up being intercepted on Via do Infante, in the municipality of Tavira.

In a note, the GNR stresses that the 809 nitrous oxide cylinders have an estimated value of more than 55 thousand euros and were seized because they were not accompanied by authorization from the National Authority for Medicines and Health Products or documentation proving that they were intended for pharmaceutical purposes.

The facts were communicated to the Judicial Court of Tavira.

The GNR recalls that nitrous oxide is a medicine subject to medical prescription and is intended for therapeutic use in hospitals.
