Som Riscado brings Mão Morta, silent cinema and silent disco to Loulé

Loulé Music and Image Festival runs from the 24th to the 27th of November

Mão Morta, silent cinema and silent disco will be in Loulé, between the 24th and 27th of November, for the seventh edition of Som Riscado, Music and Image Festival of Loulé. 

This year, the festival passes through the Cineteatro Louletano, the Palácio Gama Lobo, the House of Culture of Loulé, Solar da Música Nova, Secondary School and Headquarters of the Folkloric Ranch for Children and Youth of Loulé with several free proposals.

The Pre-Festival kicks off on the 21st, with a workshop involving a Multimedia class from Loulé Secondary School, entitled “One, two… sound!”, organized by Teatro da Didascália, which also promotes the show “Soundcheck”. ESL students will later take part in this show on the 26th,
performing one of the rock themes of “Soundcheck”.

The official opening takes place on the 24th with “Sublumia”, at Palácio Gama Lobo: a sound and visual installation that will be on display throughout the festival, incorporating sound objects and visual devices.

The objects use sound capture and light projection from and onto various liquids and electromechanical elements, such as small motors, air pumps and sound induction devices, arranged in the Palace.

At the end of the week, the 25th, comes the 70th Week, an audiovisual opera. The show brings together acoustics, electricity and electronics, with electroacoustic works, through the DME project – Dias de Música Electroacústica. That same day, there will be a silent disco, to see, hear and dance at the headquarters of Rancho Folclórica Infantil e Juvenil de Loulé, close to Palácio Gama Lobo.

On the 26th, Saturday, at 17 pm, in the Auditorium of Solar da Música Nova, sounds made in Loulé are essential, with Sulisonias – Som Verde dos Campos, commissioned by Cineteatro Louletano, which combines music by Arsénio Martins, audio by João Simões , video by Jorge Graça, poems by Salvador Santos with reading by Marinela Malveiro and nine musicians including professors from the Conservatório de Música de Loulé.

Later, at 21 pm, there is a Soundcheck at Cineteatro Louletano, an interactive concert by Teatro da Didascália, with interpretation in Portuguese Sign Language.

Soundcheck includes Pedro 'Peixe' Cardoso, Pedro Sousa and Susie Filipe and an intense and innovative lighting component.

At 22:30, but at the Folklore Ranch Headquarters, there is a Magnetic Machine, by Sonoscopy. This time, a quartet in which the digital electronics of the duo of Miguel Carvalhais and Pedro Tudela meets the customized percussive instruments of Gustavo Costa and the light and real-time video of Rodrigo Carvalho.

Finally, on the 27th, at 21 pm, at Cineteatro Louletano, Mão Morta will play live an original soundtrack for a Russian film from 00, “A Casa na Praça Trubnaia”.

It is a comedy by filmmaker Boris Barnet that satirizes the exploitation of the needy by the petty bourgeoisie, deceiving the unions, after the Socialist Revolution of 1917.

Earlier, at 17 pm, also at Cineretaro, Jorge Moniz presents “Cinematheque”, a multimedia concert where the pianist builds on classical training but adds instrumentation for string quartet, bass clarinet and voice, to which are added discreet electronic sounds.

Simultaneously, there is a light design and the projection of several multi-award winning videos at international Music Video Awards, in close collaboration with director Fernando Silva and Chris Bigg, in the record edition.

Jorge Moniz will also hold a Masterclass with students from the Loulé Conservatory of Music – Francisco Rosado. Closing, at 21, the already announced Mão Morta, at Cineteatro Louletano.

Tickets for the paid concerts (Mão Morta Redux, Soundcheck, Jorge Moniz) are on sale at the Cineteatro and Auditorium receptions of Solar da Música Nova, participating venues (Fnac, Worten, CTT and others) and online at BALL.
