A delegation of around 20 Brazilian and Portuguese mayors was in Olhão this week to discuss the good practices of the Algarve Municipality in relation to the social area.

The visit took place within the scope of the InovaJuntos cooperation project, which has been developed over the last two years, and which aimed to encourage the sharing of knowledge and partnerships for innovation between the two countries, through their bodies, municipalities, universities , study centers and other partners for sustainable development in line with the 2030 Agenda.

The contribution of the Municipality of Olhão was part of the thematic cluster “Inclusive spaces and cultural and social innovation” and, over the three days, good practices were shared through the presentation of innovative initiatives in the area of social development and information to be known by various partners of the autarchy in the Social Network, such as ACASO, MOJU, Casa do Povo de Moncarapacho, or the Todo Piso ser Palco project.

The tour around the municipality also gave the Brazilian mayors the opportunity to get to know the technical and professional courses at Escola Secundária Francisco Fernandes Lopes, especially in the area of Tourism, as well as some companies from Olhão that are examples of success and good practices.

The environmental aspect was not left out either, with the prospect of establishing partnerships between the two participants remaining on the table.

In addition to «strengthening the ties that exist between Portugal and Brazil», the main objective of this initiative is, according to councilor Elsa Parreira, «to be able to share the best that each municipality has and implement cooperation agreements between the two countries» .

After three days of exchange in Olhão, the mayor believes «that it is possible to achieve strong cooperation, through the synergies that have been created in these two years of partnership in favor of a better world, more aware, more cohesive, more sustainable, more responsible”.
