Minister only decides on dismissals at CHUA after investigation results

The Minister of Health considered the case "absolutely regrettable"

The Minister of Health said this Tuesday, November 8, in Parliament, that he will wait for the "full determination of responsibilities" to decide whether to accept the resignation from the Board of Directors of the Centro Hospitalar Universitário do Algarve (CHUA) due to the exchange of corpses in the morgue of the Hospital de Faro.

Questioned in the Assembly of the Republic, within the scope of the debate on the State Budget, about this case, which was made public yesterday, Manuel Pizarro confirmed that the CHUA administration made "the seat available".

«It makes sense to wait for the full determination of responsibilities to take decisions on this matter. We will wait with due tranquility”, added the minister.

Manuel Pizarro considered that “it made no sense” to decide “now”, not least because investigations are underway by the Public Ministry, the Health Regulatory Entity and the Centro Hospitalar Universitário do Algarve itself.

The Minister of Health also said that the case is “absolutely regrettable” and that “all measures” are being taken to help families.

According to a note issued yesterday, November 7, by CHUA, this case took place on the 3rd of this month.

The exchange of corpses meant that one of the bodies – of a French citizen, according to Jornal de Notícias – was improperly cremated.

The other deceased was British, according to the same publication.
