The athletes from Lagoa champions in the 2019/2020 season were honored last Wednesday, November 2, at the Carlos do Carmo Municipal Auditorium, where the “Sports Gala” took place.
There were about 100 athletes honored in the modalities of badminton, handball, judo, swimming and athletics.
The event started at 18:30 pm, with a small reception for the guests, followed by the rise of the champions to the stage, starting with the bronze degree category, later with the silver degree, ending with the tribute to the national champions, awarding them the gold degree.
With the holding of this Gala, the Municipality intended to "give importance to the work of the many sports agents in the municipality and the teams specialized in supporting the municipality's sports project", he says in a note.
«Recognizing sporting merit is also part of the municipal sports development strategy, namely in what concerns the II Axis – Competitive Sports. We believe that moments like this, which encourage more young people to practice sports and to excel, are essential to form champions, both in sport and in life", said Luís Encarnação, mayor.
The gala was attended by the host Luís Encarnação, the regional delegate of the Portuguese Institute of Sports and Youth (IPDJ), Custódio Moreno, the members of the municipal executive of Lagoa, the teacher responsible for the High Performance Support Unit at School, the Grouping of Schools ESPAMOL, Célia Rodrigues, the presidents of Parish Councils and Unions in the Municipality of Lagoa, the presidents and directors of associations, athletes and their families.
