Hospital Lusíadas Vilamoura opens in 2023 and creates 250 jobs

Investment of 10 million euros

The new Lusíadas Vilamoura Hospital will be built by the end of 2023 in the Lusotur building, designed in the 70s by architect Francisco Keil do Amaral. The new unit was presented this Tuesday, November 22nd, and, in addition to creating 250 jobs, represents an investment of 10 million euros.

The start of the project was marked by the signing of the contract between Lusíadas Saúde and Vilamoura World, owner of the building that will now undergo construction.

In statements to the Sul Informação, Vasco Antunes Pereira, CEO of Lusíadas Saúde, explained that the lease has a duration of 30 years.

The choice of Vilamoura for this new hospital, which will be “inclusive”, arose from a “double need”.

«Since we closed the old Hospital Santa Maria, in Faro, we had reduced capacity and thought this was a good place. There was our need, but also the local need, because Vilamoura doesn't have a unit like this», said the same official.

This will be, in the words of Vasco Antunes Pereira, a «hospital with all the latest technology and equipment».

The unit will include permanent care, more than 20 consultation offices, treatment and examination rooms, operating and minor surgery rooms, a Gastroenterology unit and an Imaging area, with the capacity to perform magnetic resonances, CAT scans, X-rays, mammography and ultrasound.

This will also be the first hospital in the south of the country dedicated exclusively to ambulatory.

Of the 10 million invested, around 4 million are earmarked for «infrastructures» and the remaining 6 million for the purchase of «state-of-the-art equipment».

According to Vasco Antunes Pereira, the perspective is, already in July, «to open the first phase of the Hospital, with emergency services, diagnosis and external consultation». The rest, it is believed, will open "by the end of 2023".

The works include, in this first phase, the demolition of the interior of the building.

This person in charge has no doubt that «all the conditions have been met for this new hospital to be a success».

For João Brion Sanches, CEO of Vilamoura World, this is also a «pimportant part in the strategy that we have defined since the beginning of the mandate and whose mission is to make Vilamoura the best destination in the Algarve to live, spend holidays and invest».

«Access to the best health care is essential for residents of Vilamoura and for all people who choose Vilamoura for their holidays. We are sure that this hospital will have a very positive impact on Vilamoura, complementing the services in the health area in a very professional way and providing Vilamoura with yet another infrastructure that makes it a unique destination in the Algarve and in the country», he concluded.
