Online-only Algarve guide to go further and reduce ecological footprint

Dissemination of the region's leisure and cultural offer will no longer be done on paper

The printed guide of Turismo do Algarve, which presents the region's leisure and cultural offer, will be replaced by a new website, “Algarve Eventos”, which will be «an aggregator of everything that happens in the 16 councils of the region».

The «Guia Algarve», until now printed monthly, ceases to exist, which will allow «to reduce the ecological footprint in the promotion of tourism in the region», which «on paper alone, consumed about 21 tons per year», according to Turismo do Algarve .

The new website will also allow “the dissemination of more events, including those of a local dimension, real-time updates on what is happening in the region and an increase in the reach of information made available to tourists and residents”.

The platform «integrates functionalities such as searching for events by category, date and municipality and when opening an event page it will be possible to add it to the calendar, to a wishlist or even share it on the main social networks. Another possibility is to subscribe to a newsletter to receive the highlights of the week directly».

«At a time when trends in consumption patterns reveal a preference for accessing online content, the expectation with the availability of events on a bilingual website, in English and Portuguese, is that it will also result in the attraction of more tourists to the region throughout the year, thus mitigating seasonality», summarizes the entity.

«We want the new site to enrich the range of tourism and cultural promotion instruments in the territory that make up the Algarve brand. In addition to favoring a quick and easy management of the contents, the site will also have an intuitive navigation, being present the concern with the availability of information on mobile devices», explains João Fernandes, president of Turismo do Algarve.

«In this way, we hope to improve the experience of those who visit us, facilitate interaction with the destination and increase the efficiency of communication and enjoyment of spaces and events in the region», he adds.

Aljezur sweet potato festival, the Algarve International Organ Festival and the Sleeping Beauty ballet are some of the events highlighted in the November program of the new Algarve website, which results from an application to the Linha Território Inteligentes | Transforming Tourism, by Turismo de Portugal.
