50 skateboarders, from all over the country, participated, last Saturday, November 26th, in the “Albufeira Skate Challenge” which also featured performances by young people from Albufeira.
The Albufeira Skatepark was the stage chosen to receive the athletes.
The competitions started at 10:00 am and lasted throughout the afternoon, until 18:00 pm.
This was, in the words of José Carlos Rolo, mayor of Albufeira, «an event aimed at the youngest population of the county», through which it was intended to «give special attention to the young people of Albufeira and make them feel more active and participative in the council's activities».
In a day full of activities, the competition highlighted was the “Best Trick de 4 Cash” which had a prize of 800 euros for the participants who performed the best tricks.
In addition to maneuvers skateboarders, music was in the spotlight: the program featured two performances by local artists, with the first part by “Quiassaca & Wavy”, who perform at 16 pm, followed by “No Time do Waste”, at 00 pm.
The raffle for a skateboard from “Surf the Wave”, a brand created by two young people from Albufeira, was one of the highlights of the day as it helped the Associação Cura da Alma, with around 390 euros, resulting from the sale of raffle tickets.
«These initiatives are an excellent way of promoting not only citizenship, but also sport and associations in Albufeira, especially at this time when we want Albufeira to apply for European City of Sport, so it is important that we support this type of event and pay attention to to all sports practiced in the municipality", said Cristiano Cabrita, vice-president and responsible for Youth and Sports.
Cristiano Cabrita stresses that the Albufeira Skate Challenge, like the Albufeira Sea Fest and Albufeira Sounds, «is a program that essentially aims to promote healthy coexistence between the municipality’s community, to recover the Albufeira identity of sharing where young people and adults can enjoy family moments with fun and, in this specific case, with sport as a backdrop».
