PS/Algarve mourns the death of former deputy Jorge Valente

Jorge Valente was born in Tavira on September 17, 1954

PS/Algarve regretted this Tuesday, October 11, the death of Jorge Valente, a former deputy in the Assembly of the Republic between 1995 and 1999.

Mayor elected in Tavira for more than twenty years, both for the Parish of Santa Maria and for the Municipality, where he served as councilor for culture, sport, education and youth and vice-president of the Municipal Council and deputy in the Municipal Assembly, Jorge Valente was a local and regional leader of the Socialist Party, as president of the Municipal Political Commission of his homeland and as secretary-general of the Algarve Regional Federation, until he retired from political life in 1999.

Also in this context, Jorge Valente would assume the functions of regional coordinator of the General States for a New Majority, which brought together hundreds of Algarve citizens from the most varied professional sectors, contributing to the elaboration of the PS electoral program and to the victory in the 1995 Legislative Elections. .

As a deputy, he signed the bills concerning the creation of the parish of Cabanas de Tavira, the elevation to the category of village of the villages of Ferragudo (Lagoa), Alcantarilha (Silves), Santa Luzia and Luz (Tavira) and the alteration of the of the parish of Santa Luzia (Tavira), among many other parliamentary initiatives, mostly related to regional themes.

Jorge Valente was born in Tavira on September 17, 1954, he was an association leader, businessman and elementary school teacher, later embarking on the profession of lawyer, which he maintained until his death this Sunday.

In a statement, Luís Graça, president of PS/Algarve, addresses, "on his personal behalf and that of the deputies and leaders of the Socialist Party, his deepest condolences to his family and to the Socialist Party of Tavira, where he was a militant, as well as to his countless sincere condolences friends».

Jorge Botelho, current deputy and former mayor of Tavira, has also regretted the death of Jorge Valente, saying that the county loses "one of the good men, who throughout his life and the many occupations and positions he held, had always available to help people».
