Portimão exhibits “A Sea of Arts” at Casa Manuel Teixeira Gomes

The exhibition “Um Mar de Artes” will be on display at the writer-President’s house until 20 November

The exhibition “Um Mar de Artes” opens next Sunday, October 9, at 16 pm, at Casa Manuel Teixeira Gomes, in Portimão.

The exhibition «gathers some fishing gear present in the municipality of Portimão, their practices, people and gestures», explains the Portimão Chamber.

This complementary approach between photography and various objects crosses the past and the present, divided by two spaces in the Casa Manuel Teixeira Gomes: the large room will feature industrial sardine fishing, between the 1950s and the present, from galleons to trawlers, between the departure of the boat and its arrival at the auction; in the small room, a recent look at artisanal fishing is proposed, with collections mainly from Alvor, in a more focused view on land work, gear preparation, since that is where work at sea begins.

In the exhibition, different points of view are grouped, such as those of Júlio Bernardo in photography and Michel Giacometti in the making of the film “Alar da Rede”, to the photographic collection work carried out by technicians from the Portimão Museum.

Mário Galhardo also collaborates, who in 2019 enabled technicians from the Portimão Museum to travel aboard his trawler “Mário Luís”, as well as the company Portipescas, which provided one of the models of the vessel, as well as the Santa Casa da Misericórdia. de Alvor, which lent several models of vessels and pieces existing in its ethnographic museum, without forgetting the artisanal fishing community of Alvor for the contribution given in the scope of the investigations carried out.

The exhibition “Um Mar de Artes” will be on display at the writer-President’s house until November 20, at the following times: Monday to Friday, from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm and from 14:30 pm to 16:30 pm.
