Portimão hosts two preparation games for the under-21 team

Both games will start at 19:15 at Estádio Municipal de Portimão

The national under-21 football team will play two matches in preparation for the European Championship against Czechia and Japan, on the 18th and 22nd of November, respectively, in Portimão.

Both games will start at 19:15 at Estádio Municipal de Portimão.

For Reinaldo Teixeira, president of the Algarve Football Association, interprets this choice of the Portuguese Football Federation as a deserved recognition to the Algarve:

«For the Algarve, it is once again a pride to receive an internship and host two matches of the U21 National Team, something that has been customary over the years. The region has been chosen many times by the Portuguese Football Federation and this time again for such an important stage as the preparation for the European Championship », he says.

«Without a doubt, all our sports agents and, in particular, young athletes from Algarve clubs deserve these opportunities to watch, live, the best national athletes of this generation in action. We would like to take this opportunity to highlight the availability, once again, of the Municipality of Portimão, the leaders of Portimonense Futebol SAD, its partners and other entities involved. May they be two beautiful shows with a full house”, he adds.

Isilda Gomes, mayor of Portimão, emphasizes her pride in being able to host the team again and calls for an audience to attend both games.

«It is with undisguised pride that Portimão once again has the honor of hosting two preparation games for the U-21 national team, heading to the 2023 European Championship. I am sure that the repeated trust placed by the Portuguese Football Federation in the Portimão Municipal Stadium is due to the excellent infrastructure of this equipment, namely in terms of the turf, one of the best in the country», he considers.

«And, despite being private matches, I am also sure that the games against Czechia, on 18 November, and Japan, four days later, will be very competitive, in the wake of the high quality that characterizes the teams guided by coach Rui Jorge, who has a lot of talented young people at his disposal and who gives us all the guarantees for the future of Equipe das Quinas. For all this, I am sure that the people of Portimão will honor their parchments and, as good hosts they are, will fill the stands of the stadium with their enthusiastic and unconditional support», he adds.

Moreover, this will be the first time that the under-21 teams of Portugal and Japan will face each other.

At the 2023 European Championship, Portugal will face Georgia, Belgium and the Netherlands in group A.
