Police chase in Guadiana to boat with drugs ends with collision and 4 injured

One of the injured is in serious condition.

A GNR boat and a high-speed vessel, loaded with 90 bales of hashish, collided in the early hours of Thursday, October 27, on the Guadiana River, next to the Laranjeiras pier (Alcoutim), causing four injuries, one of them in serious condition.

The alert was given at 4:50 pm.

According to the GNR, “after sharing information with the Guardia Civil, a high-speed vessel (EAV) was detected, measuring 12 meters and three high-power engines, traveling up the Guadiana River”, loaded with drugs.

Called to the scene, a maritime team from the Sub-Detachment of Coastal Control of Vila Real de Santo António ordered the suspect boat to stop.

But the four crew members tried to escape and, in this maneuver, hit the GNR vessel.

The four crew on board, aged between 20 and 32, were injured. One of them is in serious condition, having been transported to the Hospital of Faro.

The facts will be communicated to the Judicial Court of Vila Real de Santo António.
