Loulé receives today the premiere of the documentary “Portuguese Space Odyssey”

Documentary project by the Algarve production company New Light Pictures

“Portuguese Space Odyssey”, a documentary project by the Algarve production company New Light Pictures, has its premiere scheduled for this Sunday, October 9, at 17 pm, at Solar da Música Nova, in Loulé.

It is a documentary film jointly signed by João Pedro Viegas and Pedro Rodrigues de Matos, both directors at New Light Pictures, an Algarve audiovisual production company, widely recognized for the numerous international awards it has won in recent years.

In this project, New Light Pictures was supported by the Garantia Cultura program and was responsible for all stages of the film's development: from concept, script, production and direction, cinematography, editing and post-production, the result being first documentary feature film to the production company's portfolio.

«The desire to carry out a documentary project already manifested itself in our goals a few years ago, but the time needed to do so has always limited our will. However, the circumstances of the pandemic allowed us to do that, not only was there the necessary space for reflection, but we also had a practically free agenda, which, in turn, allowed us to respond to the challenge", says João Pedro Viegas.

In addition, the director adds that «the theme came naturally» and that «it is part of our collective imagination, it is something that excites us and that connects us all, and today we can talk about space in Portugal without talking about fiction. scientific".

«Many are the Portuguese who directly or indirectly contribute to this industry, not only abroad, but even here in Portugal and this is clearly evident in our film», he concludes.

According to Pedro Matos, co-director and editor of the documentary, «this documentary film aims to explore the history and first steps of this Portuguese space adventure through the eyes and words of some of its protagonists in the area, particularly in the training programs for the future pilots and astronauts who, hopefully, will soon be able to start in national territory. This “meeting” will ensure not only the interest of the general public, but also the curiosity of the younger generations, who are obviously our main target audience».
