Algarve Football Association hosted the 19th Arbitration Forum

The issue of recruiting and retaining new arbitrators “for the future remains a matter of concern to those responsible for district arbitration, regardless of its size”

The 19th edition of the Arbitration Forum, organized every semester by the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF), brought this weekend, the 22nd and 23rd of October, to the Algarve Football Association (AFA) the discussion of the most pressing issues of the Portuguese arbitration.

For the first time in the Algarve, the initiative of the Arbitration Council (CA) of the FPF brought together the heads of all the district CAs.

The issue of recruiting and retaining new arbitrators “for the future remains a matter of concern to those responsible for district arbitration, regardless of its size”, says the AFA.

During the two days of discussion, women's refereeing, football and futsal were discussed, as well as the Refereeing Academy, the referees' continuous training plan and the Score-training center platform.

On the last day, the president of the FPF Board of Directors, José Fontelas Gomes, answered the participants' various doubts, within the scope of the relationship between the national CA and the ADR Boards.

It was also announced the creation of the level 1 course for futsal and the creation of the national women's CORE.

In addition, the FPF's strategic plan for 2030 was discussed. The main idea is that the FPF is a trainer of excellence in different areas, which will also be applied in the arbitration sector. This plan will be presented in detail in the very near future to all district and regional CAs, in order to be quickly implemented.

During the event, the AFA Board of Directors took the opportunity to honor the former referee and renowned Algarve refereeing agent José Filipe for his 50 years of dedication to refereeing.

The opening ceremony included the speeches of José Fontelas Gomes, Vítor Filipe, representing the Mayor of Faro, Custódio Moreno, regional director of the Portuguese Institute of Sport and Youth, Reinaldo Teixeira, president of the AFA Board, and Sérgio Piscarreta, president of the AFA Board of Directors.

At the end, in addition to José Fontelas Gomes, Reinaldo Teixeira and Sérgio Piscarreta, José Alberto Ferreira, director of the FPF, Bernardino Pedroto, vice president of the National Association of Football Coaches, and Nuno Silva, director of the Portuguese Association of Football Referees spoke. .

The most recent edition of the Arbitration Forum took place in the AFA Headquarters Auditorium, organized by the FPF Arbitration Council and the AFA CA. As is tradition, the organization of the next edition of the Arbitration Forum, which will be organized by the Viana do Castelo Football Association, has already been assigned.
