78 outstanding students from Faro received merit awards

Câmara also distinguished teachers who retired

The outstanding students of the schools of Faro were distinguished with merit awards, in a ceremony that took place on Friday, the 14th, at Teatro das Figuras, which also served to honor the retired teachers.

In all, 78 students were distinguished «who stood out with the achievement of excellent school results in the various levels of schooling», according to the Chamber of Deputies. Faro. Medals of merit were awarded to the best students from each school in the municipality, namely in the 6th, 9th, 12th year of schooling and professional courses.

The ceremony also served to honor teachers who retired during the 2020/21 and 2021/22 academic years «for their life path strongly marked by the commitment to the development of their activity, which significantly contributed to the improvement of education in the municipality. ».

Ana Maria Rodrigues Guita Pinto, from the Agrupamento de Escolas, António Manuel Martins Caetano, Joaquim Matias Pastagal do Arco, Júlio da Encarnação Cachola, Maria Adelaide Simões de Brito, Maria Armanda Teodoro Ramalho Viegas Mesquita, Maria de Fátima Duarte de Almeida Gil were thus distinguished , Esmeralda Maria Neves Martins de Oliveira, Margarida Maria das Chagas Correia da Silva, Maria Edite Rafael Pimenta, Maria Eunice Lérias Ferreira, Maria Nazaré Brito Neves Rocheta Cassiano and Maria Regina Palma Ferreira Nascimento Nunes.

This ceremony had its 7th edition this year, after an interruption last year due to restrictions imposed by the pandemic, having joined the distinctions corresponding to the two academic years.

To Rogério Bacalhau, president of the Chamber of Faro, the holding of this ceremony «is of extreme importance for the school community of the municipality, distinguishing the teachers who retire for their commitment to the educational development of the municipality and the young students from Faro who will surely have a brilliant academic path and will mark the future of our territory".
