Vilamoura receives electric vehicle charging hub

Loulé municipality now has 125 points in the MOBI.E network.

Vilamoura won this Tuesday, September 13, a hub charging stations for electric vehicles, thus allowing the Municipality of Loulé to have 125 points in the MOBI.E network.

This is another of the measures to bet on the sustainable mobility network, which, in this case, results from the protocol established between the public company MOBI.E and the Municipality of Loulé, consisting of an ultra-fast charging station (with a power of 150 kW) , three fast charging stations (with a power of 50 kW), five normal charging stations (with a power of 22 kW) and a transformer station, allowing the simultaneous charging of 18 vehicles.

The initiative is financed by the Environmental Fund and included in the Economic and Social Stability Program promoted by the Government.

«Loulé has been a partner city for many years and has been a highly dynamic city in terms of electric mobility. It is one of the municipalities with one of the most extensive networks in the country, as a result of the active policy that has been developed by local entities", said Alexandre Vieira, administrator of MOBI.E, during the inauguration.

In the case of Vilamoura, KLC (Kilometer Low Cost) is the partner in the operation of the equipment, concessioned through a public tender.

O hub is located next to the facilities of GNR and Inframoura, in a residential area, and it is based on these characteristics that, according to the municipality, the operator intends to start a new pricing model here, which involves setting different values during the day and during night, in the latter case more advantageous for those who live here.

“For us it is not important to add points, but that these points are used. My expectation is that this hub will be permanently in operation», explained Pedro Nunes, responsible for KLC, the largest retail operator, with posts in the main hypermarkets, and which «has different tariffs depending on the partner and location».

For Vítor Aleixo, this is «another step in an environmentally correct mobility policy, mobility that is important to deepen in the
future".

According to the mayor of Loulé, this hub will be important to respond to the growing demand that has been registered since, also in the municipality of Loulé.

“There are more and more people exchanging their diesel and gasoline vehicles for vehicles that run on electric energy”, he said, adding that the Municipality is “increasingly set on moving fast with regard to climate policy and of environmental sustainability".

Regarding cycling mobility, Vítor Aleixo said that there are “huge projects, which include the acquisition of new bicycles, as well as the creation of new bike lanes and shared lanes. Electric mobility has been gaining more and more fans in Portugal, and as the head of MOBI.E pointed out, «for 18 consecutive months, every month the record for the number of uses in the energy network consumed has been broken».
