8 tons of carob seized in Manta Rota

Six men, aged between 30 and 50, were identified

Eight tons of carob were seized this Friday, July 29, in Manta Rota, Vila Real de Santo António. Six men, aged between 30 and 50, were identified. 

According to the GNR, the men had 266 sacks of carob with them, containing around 8000 kilos, with an estimated value of 20 euros.

The suspects were identified and the facts sent to the Vila Real de Santo António Judicial Court.

This police action was reinforced by the Territorial Posts of Castro Marim, Tavira and the Environmental Protection Center (NPA) of Tavira.

The issue of carob thefts has been on the agenda.

Last Friday – on the same day that this seizure took place – there was a demonstration by around 300 producers, in Loulé, accompanied by the Sul Informação.
