Portugal had the best performance ever in this competition

Eduardo Guerreiro, 12th grade student at João de Deus Secondary School, in Faro, won a bronze medal at the International Mathematical Olympiads, which took place from 9 to 16 July in Oslo, Norway.

The young Faroese was one of the four Portuguese to collect medals, in what, according to the Portuguese Mathematics Society, was «the best performance ever in Portugal in this competition», thanks to the silver medal and the three bronze medals collected by Portuguese students, to which they join and two honorable mentions.

In the competition, in which around 600 young people from 104 countries participated, Portugal was in the 44th place, ahead of countries like Denmark, Finland and Norway.

In addition to Eduardo Guerreiro, Tiago Mourão (Silver), Tiago Marques and Leonardo Tavares (Bronze) won medals. Marina Costa and Rafael Inácio deserved honorable mentions.
