DRCAlg presents activities from the Magallanes_ICC project on the 4th of July, in Monchique

The Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve (DRCAlg) will present the activities within the scope of the Magallanes_ICC project to the community on the 4th of July, between 17:30 and 19:30, at Sala Manuel Martins, located in the building of the Parish Council of Monchique. 

According to DRCAlg, this is a cross-border cooperation project (Interreg), which brings together several partners from Alentejo, Algarve and Andalusia to work on the theme of Cultural and Creative Industries, inspired by the 500th anniversary of the circumnavigation voyage. started by Fernão de Magalhães, evoking his pioneering, creative and innovative character.

The Regional Directorate of Culture is working in this project in the territory of the Places of Globalization (municipalities of Monchique, Vila do Bispo, Aljezur, Lagos and Silves) to stimulate the creation of products and/or services within the scope of the CCIs, linked to the theme of “Algarve participation in the maritime expansion enterprise of the XNUMXth and XNUMXth centuries”.

The objective is, according to the entity, «to promote a transfer of historical knowledge, validated by the scientific community, to the cultural and creative sector, presenting it, as well as the associated heritage, as creative resources and of economic potential of interest for creation. of innovative, sustainable and identity products'.

The presentation and framing of the project will be in charge of Susana Calado Martins, followed by interventions by Rui Manuel Loureiro, on “Fernão de Magalhães and the First Globalization”, and by Patrícia de Jesus Palma, on the “Cultural and Creative: Concepts, Challenges and Opportunities”.

The presentation session in Monchique will be the project's first connection to the community, I try free entry, but subject to the capacity of the room.

In the same week, the History Encounters Cycle will begin, with a conference by Valdemar Coutinho, entitled “Forts and Fortresses of the Western Algarve at the Time of Discoveries”, to be held in Vila do Bispo, on July 8, between 17:30 pm and at 19:30 pm.

On the 22nd of the same month, he returns to Monchique, at the same time, for a conference under the responsibility of Filipe Castro, with the theme “Building and setting up Algarve caravels in the first modernity”. After each of the conferences of the Encounters of History Cycle, a territorial design session will take place with the creative community, where the same theme will be worked on, but under a different approach.

The Magallanes_ICC project is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), through the Interreg VA España-Portugal Program (POCTEP) 2014-2020.

The sessions on the 4th and 22nd of July have the logistical support of the Monchique City Council and the Monchique Parish Council. The session on the 8th of July benefits from the support of the Vila do Bispo City Council.
