PAN requests raising of the LGBTI+ flag in Faro

And asks for the presence of representatives of the executive in the LGBTI + march, which will take place this Saturday, June 25

In a letter addressed to the Mayor of Faro, representatives of the PAN (People, Animals and Nature) in the municipality request that the “rainbow” flag be hoisted in the City Hall building, and the presence of representatives of the executive in the LGBTI + march, which will take place this Saturday, 25 of June.

“For the local representation of the party, the visible support and active participation of institutions of democratic power are very important to reinforce the legitimacy of this cause. A fight that must belong to everyone and everyone for the defense of fundamental human rights", the party said in a statement.

“There is so much to change in terms of mindsets. For example, we cannot continue to think that it is normal for the LGBTI + population to continue to be the preferred victim of “bullying” in schools and public spaces. Facts reported by the study by the Psychology Center of the University of Porto (CPUP) last month", says Paulo Baptista, party representative at the Municipal Assembly of Faro.

The march, organized by the Association for Family Planning – APF, in partnership with several local associations (such as AeQuum, Associação Xis, MAPS, among others) will take place from 15:00 pm, in Faro, on a route between Praceta do Infante (next to João de Deus Secondary School), down Av. 5th of October, Parque da Pontinha and Rua de Santo António, and ends at Palco da Doca (next to Jardim Manuel Bívar).

After the march, a second moment will begin, with the reading of the Manifesto (a document that contains the Rights that the LGBTI+ Community wants to see consecrated in the future) and moments of conviviality and animation with several guest djs.

“A little throughout the region, in particular where we elect local representatives, we have carried out actions to highlight the importance of this fight for the respect that each of us deserves as unique and special human beings without distinction of any kind, be it ethnicity, color, sex, sexual orientation, or others. We appeal to the entire population to participate», concludes Paulo Baptista.
