Isilda Gomes elected president of the NAT Commission of the Committee of the Regions

Isilda Gomes, mayor of Portimão, was elected this Wednesday, June 29, in Brussels, elected as president of the Natural Resources Commission (NAT), of the Committee of the Regions.

The NAT Commission brings together more than 100 municipal or regional presidents and members of municipal or regional assemblies, dealing with a wide variety of topics related to rural development, health, agriculture, forestry, fisheries, environmental protection. civil law, consumer protection and tourism.

Isilda Gomes has been a member of the Committee of the Regions since 2020, and is also president of the Portuguese delegation of this community body, responsible for policies aimed at regions and municipalities.

«I believe that, in the times we are living, the NAT Commission has to play a central role in matters that are decisive for people's lives, through an active agenda in the Committee of the Regions that allows to contribute to the definition of European policies of support to municipalities and regions», says the mayor.

“We, as Europeans, need to lead the world in responding to the climate crisis. We have in our common agenda the important mission of creating, investing in and encouraging models for using resources that protect us from global warming», he concludes.
