Arrested in Algarve in Europol operation

The purpose of the operation was to dismantle a criminal network of crimes aiding illegal immigration, sexual exploitation and money laundering.

Europol’s Operation Claudia, carried out by the authorities of Portugal, France and Spain – which aimed to dismantle a criminal network dedicated to the practice of crimes in aid of illegal immigration, sexual exploitation and money laundering – resulted in arrests in the Algarve region. . 

In Portugal, on the 20th of June, the Judiciary Police (PJ) carried out four house search warrants and three European arrest warrants, with three foreign nationals, two men and one woman, being arrested in the Algarve and Setúbal regions.

The investigation is being carried out by the French Judicial Authorities, and had judicial cooperation, on national territory, by the Central Department of Investigation and Criminal Action.

"In addition to the aforementioned arrests, several pieces of evidence were seized in national territory, as well as two vehicles and around 12.000 euros in cash", reveals the PJ in a statement.

After judicial interrogation, the three defendants were subject to the coercive measure of preventive detention.
