Performance of Portuguese students on Reunion Island

A show on June 1, on Réunion Island, French overseas territory in the Indian Ocean, bringing together students and teachers from schools in Olhão, Lodz (Poland) and the city of Le Tampon, in that island department, culminated the Erasmus + Project "Music and theater at the service of multicultural dialogue playing together to build a common European identity” (Music and theater at the service of multicultural dialogue working together to build a common European identity).

In the project, which started in the 2019/2020 school year, but was interrupted due to the pandemic, 16 students and four teachers from the three countries involved participated: Escola EBI/JI José Carlos da Maia, in Olhão, Escola Secundária “Salesian High School”, in Lodz, Poland, and the Basic School “Collège du 14ème”, in Le Tampon, on Réunion Island.

On 1 June, Children's Day, at the Theater of the city of Saint-Pierre, a show brought together and combined the musical and folkloric roots of the three countries, having been "praised by the Reunionian educational community that attended it, thus proving the possibility of the existence of a united and solidary European culture», emphasizes Celina Pereira, project coordinator.

«In addition to highlighting the excellent performance of the students in the performance and the commitment, involvement and dedication that everyone showed throughout the project, we cannot forget the healthy and enriching interaction that was established between the participants from the various countries and the collaboration of all Education Officers, namely in the preparation and sharing of typical dishes of their country, so we ensure that this fantastic experience will be recorded in the school career of our students and will undoubtedly be an asset for their future lives», he adds.

The main objectives of the project focused on the promotion of cooperation between peers, on the development of students' artistic and linguistic skills and on the contribution of a dialogue that encourages them to reflect on the place they occupy, not only in the society in which they are inserted, but also also within the European community.

The project's activities consisted of a regular sharing of the various materials produced by students from the three countries (audio, videos, photos and presentations) through the Etwinning platform, and weekly rehearsals of collective artistic practice, in each of the educational establishments.

To allow for joint rehearsals and the exchange of artistic and cultural experiences, three learning mobilities were held throughout this year: between the 21st and 27th of March, participants from Poland and Reunion Island attended the Olhão and visited the city. From the 23rd of April to the 1st of May, it was everyone's turn to meet in Lodz, Poland, while, to close, from the 28th of May to the 5th of June, the three groups were in Le Tampon, on Réunion Island.
