Volunteers needed to monitor Rota Vicentina

on May 14th

The Rota Vicentina association is looking for volunteers to participate in an activity to assess the impact of hikers on the Alentejo and Vicentina Coast, on the 14th of May.

In the month in which the Rota Vicentina walking trails celebrate 10 years, the association that manages them will promote “a major monitoring action, with surveys and counts of hikers throughout the Alentejo and Vicentine Coast”.

For this, this entity wants to “gather about 100 volunteers, for 5 hours, on all the trails at the same time and registration is now open”.

Anyone who wants to participate must register through this form and wait for the Rota Vicentina team to contact you with more information about the 14th of May action, the precautions to be taken during the counts and the completion of the questionnaires for the hikers, and also how to pick up the volunteer kit at one of the scattered collection points across the territory.

«In 2017, Rota Vicentina had a large team of volunteers to be able to monitor its impact in the region. It was concluded that, in that year, around 24.000 hikers of 25 different nationalities traveled through the region, coming mainly from Germany, France and the United Kingdom», framed the Rota Vicentina.

«In 2022, the proposal will, once again, determine how many hikers walk the Rota Vicentina, who they are, what motivates them, how and how much they spend during their trip, how they are seen by the local community and what its true footprint in the territory», he concluded.
