Portimão Museum marks 14th anniversary with photo race and exhibitions

Celebrations take place throughout the month of May.

The Portimão Museum celebrates its 14th anniversary this month and, to celebrate, several activities, exhibitions and the traditional Photographic Race are scheduled. 

The first initiative takes place this Saturday, May 7th.

"A day in Prehistory", which will take place in the Megalithic Monuments of Alcalar, allows everyone to participate in the historical recreation, through pedagogical workshops on food preparation and cooking, prehistoric beer, the manufacture of agricultural tools and instruments, a workshop engraving, carving and adornment processes, hunting, pottery, weaving, transporting large monoliths, milling and other rituals of the prehistoric daily life of the town and funerary tombs that make up this necropolis.

Next Saturday, 14th, at 9:00 am, the face-to-face edition of the 22nd Photo Race, which will run until 21:00. In this initiative, all participants will receive their “passport”, as well as information on the first subjects to be photographed and the location of the next checkpoint, at 12:00.

The opening of two temporary exhibitions linked to the sea and the canning industry is scheduled for 17:00, entitled “Este Mar ao Fundo” (on display until 13 November) and “Eat & Art / Food and Art” (on display until 25 November). September).

The 17th of May is the exact date of the Portimão Museum's anniversary, and therefore, on that day, the site can be visited for free.

The “Other Side of the Museum” can be appreciated through a guided tour of its reserves, to discover the other collections of this story factory.

The 18th of May also marks the International Museum Day by ICOM – International Council of Museums, this year with the theme “The Power of Museums”, which will be the motto for a party that brings together museums from all over the world, and which is also part of the commemorations of this 14th anniversary. Thus, on that day, all visitors will be invited to enter both the Museum and the Megalithic Monuments of Alcalar free of charge.
