José Eduardo Agualusa wins Grand Prix for Chronicle and Literary Scattered APE/CM Loulé

The Grand Prize for Chronicles and Dispersos Literários has already distinguished José Tolentino Mendonça, Rui Cardoso Martins, Mário Cláudio, Pedro Mexia, Mário de Carvalho and Lídia Jorge.

The book “O Mais Belo Fim do Mundo”, by José Eduardo Agualusa, won the Grand Prize for Chronic and Dispersed Literaries Portuguese Writers Association/Municipal Council of Loulé, the jury announced this Thursday, May 5th.

This was a unanimous decision by the jury made up of Carina Infante do Carmo, Carlos Albino Guerreiro and Fernando Batista.

«The jury decided to award the Prize for the skill in the writing of the chronicle, which is nuanced in the forms of the short story, the essay and the diary notes without compromising the calibrated design of the book. In the hands of José Eduardo Agualusa, the chronicle is an accurate probe of ordinary personal days and the collective time that is ours, tense, troubled, broadening our horizons to mainly African geographies through beautiful, lucid and poetic writing», reads up in the minutes.

The Grand Prize for Chronicles and Dispersos Literários, established by the Portuguese Writers Association with the sponsorship of the Câmara de Loulé, aims to annually award a work in Portuguese, by a Portuguese author, published in book and in the first edition in Portugal, in the year of 2021.

In the present edition, the prize is 12 thousand euros.

The award ceremony will take place on Loulé Municipality Day, on the 26th of May.
