“He is risen as he said! Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah!” The century-old litany returns this Easter Sunday, April 17, to the streets of São Brás de Alportel, after two years in which the pandemic forced the cancellation of the biggest party in the county.

The streets will once again be decorated with their traditional flower carpets.

After a week of picking the flowers and preparing them in the early hours of Sunday, hundreds of volunteers set about preparing the flower mats.

The program starts at 9:30 am, with the opening of the streets to be appreciated. From 10:00 am, Largo de São Sebastião hosts the Easter Flavors Encounter, while the Parish Church of the Mother Church presents the Handicraft Exhibition.

At that time, in the Main Church, the Eucharist of the Resurrection will also be held, which precedes the Hallelujah Procession, in honor of the Risen Jesus.

Starting at 15:00 pm, the Church's Churchyard hosts the Afternoon Cultural, a lively moment with the exhibition of handicrafts, sweets and snacks, with the presentation of the winners of the Floral Games and the flowering torches contest and with the performances of the groups : Rancho Folclórico de Santo Estevão, Domingos Caetano with a tribute to Portuguese rock and Ágata.

The party is organized by Associação Cultural Sambrasense, Parish of São Brás and Câmara de São Brás de Alportel.

In this edition, the organizers think about participants with reduced mobility.

«The Flower Torches Festival is once again an accessible event. In this edition, and similarly to what happened in 2019, the Municipality of São Brás de Alportel, in partnership with Fisio S. Brás and the Casa de Repouso e Saúde de São Brás, adapt a space in the enclosure where the Hallelujah Procession passes, with logistical support in monitoring and reserving parking areas to provide better conditions for people with reduced mobility who participate and attend this event», says the Municipality.

This initiative is part of the “São Brás Accessible for All” project, which will be repeated in 2022.

During this Easter season, from the 12th to the 25th of April, the gastronomic fortnight “Sabores do Caldeirão” will also take place, with the participation of a dozen restaurants in the county, which respect the Mediterranean Diet and cultural traditions.
