It is behind the wheel of a racing car that they make a living, but it will be in the waves of Cordoama beach, in Vila do Bispo, and on top of a surfboard that they will have their first opportunity to “go around”, in your passage through the Algarve.
Turismo do Algarve took advantage of the holding of a DTM race, the German touring car championship, at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve, in Portimão, to promote «a special action for some of the main drivers participating in this recognized event», today, day 28.
This morning, the riders are having a surfing lesson, «under the guidance of the German Sebastian Steudtner, the professional surfer recognized worldwide as an expert in giant waves and one of the most knowledgeable about the waves of Nazaré, where he currently lives», according to Turismo from the Algarve.
The organization of this initiative has the support of the Freeride Surf School, from Sagres. Among the participants will be reference riders such as Maximilian Götz (DTM Champion in 2021), Sheldon Van der Linde, Kelvin van der Linde, Esteban Muth, Marco Wittmann, Timo Bernhard, Phillip Eng, Nicky Thiim and Esmee Hawkey.
With this action, «which brings together great stars from the racing tracks and the world surfing», Turismo do Algarve seeks not only to commemorate the choice of the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve as the circuit chosen for the opening of the DTM championship season - which will take place between the 29th of April and 1st of May -, «but also to position the region as an appealing destination for all lovers of adrenaline and strong emotions».
«We want to show that the Algarve manages to surprise all those who like to challenge limits and experience intense sensations, with a very wide range of offer», states João Fernandes, president of Turismo do Algarve.
«The destination not only has a set of equipment and support infrastructure of enormous quality, capable of meeting the highest standards required for hosting international sporting competitions, but also offers challenging natural settings of great beauty, which allow for a profound contact with nature and that leave no one indifferent», he adds.
