Bunny and Easter eggs join Holy Week celebrations in Portimão

There will also be carousels and an Easter Market

The traditions of Holy Week, as well as an entertainment program with carousels, eggs and Easter bunnies, will mark this festive season in Portimão, between the 9th and 17th of April.

According to the Portimão City Council, one of the highlights of the program is Holy Week and the liturgical celebrations linked to it, which will be distributed across the Parish of Nossa Senhora da Conceição – Parish of Portimão, Parish of the Mother Church of Mexilhoeira Grande, Parish of Divino Salvador of Alvor and the Parish of Nossa Senhora do Amparo, in addition to the Vicariate of Pedra Mourinha

It is planned to hold “Easter Vigils, Eucharists, Masses and processions”.

In addition to the religious aspect, the initiative “Viva Easter Portimão 2022” also focuses on proposals that promote “the joy of celebration in a family environment”.

The municipality talks about “nine days full of reasons of interest, with unique experiences in several emblematic places in the city centre, in which the Easter spirit will touch families, especially the imagination of the little ones, with emphasis on the Egg Hunt and the Easter Bunny».

A Giant Basket will be installed in Largo da Mó, with the aim of attracting «families to record good memories».

«In Praça da República, entertainment will be guaranteed with rides on Parisian carousels and selfies inside the Giant Easter Egg, between 15 pm and 00 pm», added the Portimãp City Council.

In Jardim 1º de Dezembro there will be an Easter Market between the 9th and 16th of April, promoted by Teia D`Impulsos, «consisting of small wooden houses intended for small craft businesses, new design and good gourmet food, having this festive season as a common denominator».

«The space, which can be visited from 15 pm to 00 pm, will have a perfect mega heart, worthy of a photographic record to remember later, and even an enchanting swing», reveals the municipality.

On the long Easter weekend, between 15 and 17 April, boys and girls up to ten years of age will be able to participate, from 15 pm to 00 pm, in the “Egg Hunt” activity, in Jardim Visconde Bívar «and get to know the Easter Bunny alive and in color'.

Those interested in participating in this hunt only need to register on the same day and on the spot.

On the 16th, at 19:00 pm, TEMPO – Teatro Municipal de Portimão hosts the Easter Concert, which will be performed by the Orquestra Sinfónica do Algarve, conducted by maestro Armando Mota, with violinist João Pedro Cunha as soloist.

Tickets for the show cost 15 euros.
