Students from Portimão started canoeing and sailing initiation activities

This initiative involves three hundred children and young people from the Poeta António Aleixo School Group.

The canoeing and sailing initiation activities, which are part of the Nautical Project in Schools, started this Tuesday, April 19, for the 6th grade classes at Escola D. Martinho de Castelo Branco, in Portimão.

The protocol of this project, which also includes the alternative curricular activities of the Physical Education subject, was established in the last academic year between the Municipality of Portimão, the Poeta António Aleixo School Group and the respective association of parents and guardians, Clube Naval of Portimão, Teaching to Smile – Association of Solidarity and Support to the Family and Portinado – Swimming Association of Portimão.

In this academic year 2021/2022, the pilot project will take place, involving students from the 4th grade classes at Centro Escolar do Pontal, during the curriculum enrichment activities (swimming), as well as the 6th grade classes at Escola Básica D. Martinho Castelo Branco, in terms of Curricular Activities (canoeing and sailing), involving three hundred children and young people from the Poeta António Aleixo School Group.

The swimming lessons, which started last October, take place at the Portimão Municipal Swimming Pool, with the collaboration of a Portinado technician, while the sailing and canoeing activities, which started today, coinciding with the beginning of the 3rd school period, they have the support of two technicians from Clube Naval de Portimão, using the respective facilities.

The Nautical in Schools Project only integrates the Poeta António Aleixo School Group in this experimental phase, due to the proximity to the facilities of the Municipal Swimming Pool of Portimão and the Clube Naval de Portimão.
