Vila Real de Santo António organizes solidarity vigil for Ukraine

Symbolically, the City Hall building will also be illuminated with the colors of the National Flag of Ukraine.

Vila Real de Santo António hosts, this Wednesday, March 2, between 18 pm and 00 pm, a vigil of solidarity with the Ukrainian people, announced the City Council.

The initiative will take place in Praça Marquês de Pombal and aims to appeal for peace in Ukraine, at a time when the Russian offensive in Ukrainian territory is escalating.

"In this sense, it is intended to act and show solidarity with the Ukrainian people who, at this moment, see their lives, their families and their assets threatened", explains the municipality.

The vigil is open to the participation of all who want to join, spontaneously, and will be attended by elements of the Ukrainian community residing in the municipality of Vila Real de Santo António.

The action also aims to "demand that lives and human rights are respected, calling for an end to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine".

On this date, and symbolically, the City Hall building will also be illuminated with the colors of the National Flag of Ukraine.

The solidarity initiative is expected to be punctuated by several interventions, namely by the Mayor Álvaro Araújo.

At the same time, the municipality of VRSA will organize several initiatives to collect food and non-food items that will be directly delivered to various humanitarian associations.
