Unions demand in Faro postponement of the transfer of competences in education

“The process of transferring competences, as regulated, relieves the State of responsibility in terms of Education”, accuse the unions

Four Algarve unions will participate this Friday, April 1, from 10:00 am, in a public gallery, next to the headquarters of AMAL – Comunidade Intermunicipal do Algarve, in Faro, to demand the postponement of the transfer of competences to local authorities in the field of education.

In this initiative will participate the Union of Unions of the Algarve (USAL/CGTP-IN), the Union of Teachers of Zonal Sul (SPZS), the National Union of Workers in Local and Regional Administration (STAL) and the Union of Workers in Public Functions and Social Affairs of the South and Autonomous Regions (STFPSSRA).

The protest «is part of the struggle that has been waged by the unions to postpone the process of transferring competences to local authorities, thus promoting a broader debate in Portuguese society about education and public schools in Portugal», says the organization.

“The process of transferring competences, as regulated, relieves the State of responsibility in terms of Education, accentuates asymmetries between municipalities, exacerbates problems and difficulties and jeopardizes universal access to public schools”, he concludes.
