Covid-19 weekly report: Fewer cases, deaths and hospitalizations in the last seven days

The total number of cases, deaths and hospitalizations for Covid-19, in Portugal, dropped between the 8th and 14th of March, compared to those recorded in the previous week, according to the weekly situation report of the Directorate-General for Health. , which has just been released.

In the period under review, there were a total of 78.464 new cases, 811 less than those reported in the previous weekly report, for the period between 1 and 7 March.

Likewise, there were 39 fewer deaths in one week (123 in total), which means that the death rate per million inhabitants dropped to 12 (-25%).

 

 

In hospitals, there were 85 fewer people admitted to the ward. Also in intensive care there was a drop, in this case of 12 patients, for a total of 66.

By region, 5367 cases of Covid-19 were diagnosed in the Algarve, in one week (+26), and 8 deaths (+2). In Alentejo, there are 5431 more cases (-182) and 11 deaths (+4).

 

 

Lisbon and Vale do Tejo recorded a total of 31.950 cases, 1228 more than in the previous period, and 36 deaths (-18).

The bulletin also reports 13.103 cases in the North (+194), 15.894 in the Center (-902), 4384 in Madeira (-105) and 2335 in the Azores (-1070).

By age groups, those between 10 and 19 years old (13.409 cases) and those between 40 and 49 (13.033) lead the table with the most cases in seven days. The age group with the fewest new cases is 80 years or older (3932).

 

 

Active cases drop in the Algarve 

With regard to the specific situation in the Algarve, the weekly report of the District Civil Protection Commission also indicates that, in a week, new cases, active cases and hospitalizations dropped.

Thus, according to that document, in the week of March 11 to 18, the Algarve region recorded 5293 more cases of Covid-19, a number lower than the previous week. There were still 9 more deaths.

However, contrary to what had happened the previous week, this week the number of active cases dropped, which now stands at 11.907 (1037 less than a week ago)

There was also a decrease in the number of Covid patients hospitalized in Algarve hospitals: there are now 52, ​​minus 8. Of these, only 2 are hospitalized in Intensive Care (minus 2) and 1 ventilated (minus 1).

Over these eight days, 4247 more people recovered from Covid, bringing the number of recovered to 135.082.
