Eight “hand hooks”, which did not have a license, were seized this Thursday, March 3, by the Maritime Police in Tavira.

This apprehension took place within the scope of an inspection “aimed at the practice of the activity of catching bivalves”, says the National Maritime Authority.

The shellfish gatherers, who were using the seized fishing gear, managed to escape, “when they realized that elements of the Maritime Police were approaching”.

In the course of this action, another 32 shellfish gatherers were detected and inspected, and no infraction was detected in these.

Eight members of the local Command of the Maritime Police of Tavira were involved in this action, supported by two vehicles, a 4×4 motorcycle and a boat.
